Overview of Our Healthy Baby™ Program

The national Healthy People 2010 initiative has a goal of reducing the number of pre-term babies to 7.6 % of live births. Currently 11.9% of all babies born are considered pre-term in the U.S. In South Dakota that number is 11.1%.

The Our Healthy Baby™ Program is a voluntary program available to members of various insurance groups. There is no cost to join the program, but some clients offer additional incentives to encourage participation. Members are encouraged to call their Plan Administrator for specific benefit information.

Enrollments and trimester updates can be done by phone or via the Our Healthy Baby ™ website. Updates are required every trimester and at the beginning of the last month of pregnancy, in addition to any time there is a change in the condition of the expectant mother or baby.

The information is submitted to the nurses and the Medical Director for the insurance plan and the nurses/doctor are available if the member has specific pregnancy-related questions or problems; or if the member needs assistance with pre-authorizations or referrals. The intent is not to replace the care the member receives from her regular physician.

Benefits are include:

* Each trimester, mailings are sent related to the woman's stage of pregnancy. The first mailing includes the choice of a nice book; other mailings include information about a variety of subjects such as breastfeeding, car seats, fevers, growth and development, safe nurseries, etc.
* Members are able to submit questions online about prenatal care, and they also have access to educational resources on this site.
* Enrollment in the program also serves as the member's pre-authorization for their delivery. We still ask the hospital to call when the member has been admitted so that our dates match the billing dates, but the member does not need to make that call.

***Enrollment in the Our Healthy Baby™ Program does not automatically add the new baby to your current insurance policy. To do this, you must contact your Human Resources Department and complete a family status change form within 31 days of the birth.

Early enrollment is highly encouraged so contact us as soon as you know you are pregnant! You may enroll by visiting the Our Healthy Baby™ website or calling our toll-free line at 1-888-821-2242. Members create a user name and password with characters and/or numbers. (No minimum amount required.) The user name and password will be used to login the website for updates throughout the pregnancy. If you have been enrolled previously, however, you will need to both re-enroll and use different user names/different passwords, for each new pregnancy.
